Final Four

This just in ... Memphis is really good. I have watched a lot of UCLA games the last three years. There are only two teams who have made them look like that. Florida and Memphis. The better team won tonight.

I think the Tennessee/Memphis game was the most important game of the season for both teams. Memphis needed the loss and I honestly believe the win was the ruination of Tennessee's season. They thought they had arrived. They never looked hungry to me after that win. The mental aspect of sports is amazing. Who'd think a win could ruin your season?

Watching the UNC/Memphis game is frustrating for me. I really don't care who wins. I think the referees started helping UNC when they were down 28. I know referees cannot overcome a twenty-eight point deficit, but if UNC comes back, they were helped. Refs have to call the game like it is tied no matter how different the score is. Have I mentioned I hate referees? It's a problem.

Billy Packer, why do you talk?

Jim Nantz, this isn't Augusta.

Kevin Love, please come back.

Darren Collison, see Kevin Love.

Sorry for your teams loss Danny. Hope Rebecca didn't tape you last night.

I don't remember ever seeing a game like the Kansas / UNC game last night. UK came back from like 18 pts once against Duke. But the Kansas game was really strange, because they played the first 15 minutes and the last 7 minutes of the game in a very dominant fashion. In between it looked like they were totally out of it mentally for an 18 minute stretch of the game.

The refs seem to really like the big white players who are skilled. I think T Hansboror gets too many calls his way. I'm not sure how Kevin Love managed to play a whole game without picking up a single foul. Both guys are great players, just thought the calls were a little strange.

I thought UCLA was going to be able to play better defense against the guards of Memphis. Rose is an NBA player already and I don't think there is a guy in college that can stop him right now. After watching UCLA more this year, I really like Howland, I think he is a classy coach. Although, game plan last night, I'm not sure why they didn't bang it inside more, especially after Memphis picked up some quick cheap fouls on the bigs. Also, thought the defensive matchups UCLA chose didn't always seem to make sense. UCLA had a couple of guys have bad games offensively in Collison and Mbamoute.

For me not having a favorite team in the final four, I enjoyed last night.

I think Kansas and Memphis should be interesting. They seem to be very similar. Both have 3 or 4 big guys to rotate and both have a great wing in CDR and Rush, Rose is in a class by himself right now. But Kansas has Collins and Chalmers. I hope it is a close game and not sure who to root for, but I think I'll go with Kansas.

Danny,

Eric and I were thinking about you on Saturday night. Once Memphis decisively pulled ahead, I said, "Oh, I bet Danny is freaking out right now." Eric would say, "No, it is still early. I bet he's fine." We kept this dialogue up for most of the game. Finally with about 3 minutes left, he said, "Yep, I bet Danny is freaking out now!" Sorry. Being the True Blue UK fans that we are, we can sympathize with you and relate to you. It was a very interesting (and surprising) final four, to say the least. Actually, it is weird (and excitement lacking) that there hasn't been an actual close game since the Elite 8 (WKU/Xavier). You just never know what March Madness will look like!

I also wanted to comment on your blog--It isn't always like this Joshua...but only from the opposite side of it. Workman Boys, it isn't always like this. :) Hopefully, Big Blue is on the road to rebuilding a solid team.

Ooops! I mistyped...I meant the elite 8 game against Davidson/Kansas. I was thinking of the WVU (not WKU)/Xavier game in Sweet Sixteen that was close. I think that may have been the only Sweet Sixteen game that was a nailbiter.

Anyway, not that any of that had to be clarified, I just thought that I would. :)
