I can't explain it, but I'm finding myself very interested in the Lakers. Old feelings are being rekindled. I ran across this video today. I posted on a Sports Illustrated message board defending Byron Scott's role on the 80's Laker teams. I looked up James Worthy posters on ebay. Something is happening. I think I'm forgiving Kobe. I think I'm cheering for the Lakers. I have wanted them to lose for so many years in a row. It feels so strange. But it is definitely happening.

I wish I could come back to the Lakers, or any NBA team for that matter. I've gone as far as following specific players, but that's about it.
I need a Laker to pull his socks up to his knees and be the recipient of the best dunk Dr. J every had. I need another Laker to wear hideous goggles. A third Laker needs to be near the end of his career but still have a shot that is unblockable. And lastly, maybe they can draft a guy who is eight inches too tall for his position, yet is able to make every pass and every shot when the team needs them the most.
Then I'll come back to the Lakers.
don't get me wrong. i'm not going to feel pain if they lose. i'm just starting to care. it is still way down on my list of sports. if this wasn't the time of year when sports are boring, i probably wouldn't even be noticing. i just don't have a lot to pay attention to in the sports world right now.

That's right, come back home!
With Ariza and Bynum back next year, this (healthy) team could win 70 games. Both those guys will make a big impact in defense and rebounding. I think they would stack up to the 72 win bulls team if they figure the defense out. They would be earily similar if you think about the personnel. Lakers would be deeper, actually.
They may not come together as well if they happen to win it all this year. Which is a decent chance. I love them to win, but if they do not, it will be good for next season.
Free agancy will kill them before too long after that.
awesome!!! an uncle chris quote. i have always said magic was the reason i loved the lakers. i think it was actually uncle chris before magic. the comment made me remember watching the '85 playoffs. it's my first memories of loving sports.
